2018 in summary – Highlights

The year 2018 was a very eventful one, and for the first time we are giving you highlights of some of the news items we brought you in 2018. [Please click on the blue colour texts to access those news items].

The first news item of 2018 was the full text of the new year message by The Nigerian President – President Mohammed Buhari.

The same day there was one of the hottest breaking news of 2018 which was the massive outrage over the appointment of some dead persons into certain Boards of Government Agencies. And the names of the eight dead persons were listed in this report.

The next hot news item for January 2018 was the New Year Day Benue Killings. The mass burial in Makurdi drew a national outrage. Then came Pastor Tunde Bakare’s State of the Nation broadcast.

The biggest news item to rock the African Continent in the month of February 2018 was that of Cyril Ramaphosa Succeeding Jacob Zuma As President Of South Africa.

Then the whole world stood still with respect, stunned by the passing on into glorious eternity of the world renowned Evangelist Billy Graham, whose ‘matchless voice changed the lives of millions,’ exiting the earthly stage at the ripe old age of 99. 

Also, there was the breaking news of the NASS Blockage: Nigerian Acting President Osinbajo Sacks DSS Boss, Lawal Daura. The then Acting President, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo moved quickly to appoint a New Nigerian Acting DSS (Directorate Of State Security) DG. A move that was welcomed by the Nigerian populace because it was a departure from the previous sectional all northern appointments for Heads of Security Agencies in the present government. But when President Buhari returned from his medical trip in Uk, the newly appointed DSS Boss was sacked.

The whole world was stunned when the news of the death of the Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan at age 80 broke.

The next universally shocking news item was UNICEF Saying that Nigerians have more access to cell phones than toilets! Subsequently, there was a humongous Cholera outbreak in Nigeria that was reported to have claimed nearly 100 lives.

Then we were shocked by the news that Nigeria’s Foreign Debt has hits $22.08bn! 

On the Sports side, the whole football world was shocked by the tragic death of the owner of Leicester football club via a helicopter crash. And the Identities of all five fatalities after tragic incident was released.

Come December the nation was stunned by a UN report that claimed that in Nigeria more than 13 Million School-age Children were out of school.

Finally, on the sporting tip, Soccer heavyweight club Manchester United sacked manager Jose Mourinho after a string of poor results.
